A new pneumonia vaccine has not yet been developed. The process of vaccine development usually includes preclinical studies, human clinical trials, and formal promotion and application. Preclinical studies include the necessary research work done in the laboratory, such as finding candidate drug molecules, doing efficacy and safety tests in cells and animal models; isolating viruses from patients, preparing vaccines by large-scale culture of viral strains, and testing vaccines on animal models. The drug molecules and vaccines that pass the various tests are then ready for the next step in the process, testing in humans.
