Beware of facial paralysis at the beginning of the golden wind

The weather is turning cool and it’s the best season of the year in Beijing again. It coincides with the 60th anniversary, and with the Mid-Autumn Festival, a total of 8 days off, everyone is happy and ready for vacation from now on. It is good to be on vacation, but it is necessary to remind us of the problem of disease prevention. I remember that on one National Day, I was on duty in the outpatient clinic and saw more than 10 patients with facial palsy in a row, all with acute onset. This is not an accidental occurrence, as Chinese medicine says, “If the righteousness exists within, the evil cannot dry up; where the evil comes together, its qi will be deficient”. When the human body is deficient in positive qi, it is easily disturbed by external evil, and wind-cold external evil is the main pathological factor leading to facial paralysis. The main reason for this is that the body has a barrier that protects the normal physiological activities of the person, which is called “Wei Qi” in Chinese medicine, but lack of sleep and irregular diet will lead to the dissipation of Wei Qi and the barrier will disappear. Therefore, as the festive season is approaching, we should emphasize the importance of regular living and diet, not to overwork or overeat, especially not to sweat when the wind is blowing and avoid getting cold, so as to reduce the occurrence of facial paralysis.
