Hand sweating is known as sweaty hands and feet in Chinese medicine, which can be categorized as damp-heat in the spleen and stomach, Yin deficiency in the spleen and stomach, and Qi deficiency in the spleen and stomach, etc. The patient can be treated with prescriptions such as Dampness Removing and Stomach Ling Soup, Sasanqua Maitong Soup, and Ginseng Ling Baijushu San.
1. Damp-heat in the spleen and stomach: Damp-heat in the spleen and stomach is one of the main causes of hand sweating, which is often accompanied by chest and epigastric plumpness (stomach distension and discomfort), as well as heaviness and drowsiness, etc. It can be treated by removing heat and dampness, and using the formulae of Dehumidifying Gastro-ling Soup with additions and subtractions, in accordance with the principle of clearing heat, removing dampness and harmonizing with the middle.
2. Yin deficiency of the spleen and stomach: Yin deficiency of the spleen and stomach is caused by improper diet or injury of yin by fever, etc. In addition to the symptoms of sweating of the hands and feet, it is often accompanied by dry mouth and throat, and loss of appetite, etc. Sha Shen Maidong Tang with additives and subtractions can be used to nourish the stomach yin.
3. Spleen and stomach qi deficiency: Spleen and stomach qi deficiency is mostly caused by physical exertion, uncertainty of hunger and satiety leading to damage of the spleen and stomach, and the patient usually has sweaty hands and feet, tiredness and weakness, and loss of appetite, etc. The treatment should be to tonify the spleen and qi. The treatment is to replenish the spleen and qi, and can be treated with the addition of ginseng ling bai ju san.
