How to properly understand ADHD in children?

ADHD is the common name for attention deficit hyperactivity disorder in children, and is a common childhood disorder with many causes. The causes of ADHD are very complex, and there are about four aspects of research, one is the biochemical basis of neuroanatomy, which means that something may have changed the biochemical basis of the child, causing some abnormalities, and some genetic factors. High. There is also a central nervous system damage, that is, brain damage, because ADHD was first called mild brain dysfunction, indicating that these children suffered some brain damage in the womb. There is also a relationship with lead poisoning, micronutrient deficiencies, and maternal smoking, drinking, and drug use during pregnancy. If ADHD is not intervened, there are many hazards: (1) Hazards to the individual: children with mild ADHD are not able to concentrate on their studies, resulting in a decline in academic performance; they are not able to control their behavior and do not submit to discipline. Children with severe ADHD have difficulty finishing elementary and middle school. Children with severe ADHD have difficulty finishing elementary and middle school. As they grow older, they may get into fights and fights, lie and steal, and even become criminals. (2) The harm to the family: ADHD children are also anxious to learn, truant, disrupt the classroom order, so they are often criticized by teachers, so parents are ashamed and annoyed, and they scold and stick their children when they go home. Some of them hire tutors at high prices and waste a lot of time and money to no avail; some of them make their children confront and hate their parents, which affects family harmony. (3) Hazards to schools: In schools, ADHD children often disrupt classroom order, fight, steal and destroy, and get low grades. (4) the danger to society: children with ADHD, if not treated in time, to adults due to poor self-control, impulsiveness, good and bad, greedy for enjoyment, often a high crime rate, and repeatedly become repeat offenders, affecting social stability and the safety of people and property. Parents generally have a misconception: they do not think it is a disease that needs to be treated, mistaking it for a psychological problem, a habit problem, an educational problem, and not going to a formal hospital for screening and consultation. As a result, the most critical time for the child’s education may be delayed, which may affect the child’s life journey and even affect the future. Therefore, early treatment is especially important. According to research, children with ADHD may lack one of the neurotransmitters such as norepinephrine, dopamine, and 5-hydroxytryptamine in the brainstem reticular activation system, so the two types of drugs commonly used in clinical practice have the effect of promoting the release of these neurotransmitters. In order to standardize the treatment protocol for ADHD in China, the Chinese Pediatric Neurological Association, the Chinese Pediatric Health Care Association and the Chinese Pediatric Psychiatric Association will recently jointly introduce a treatment protocol for ADHD in China. In this protocol, both classes of drugs are included in the first line of preferred therapeutic use and are now included in the National Children’s Medical Insurance List, which further reflects the concern of the government authorities for children with ADHD. Here, some parents have a misconception: they only care about the cost of medication and rarely consider the cost effectiveness of treatment. Some parents feel that it is expensive to spend several hundred dollars a month on medication, but spend more than a thousand dollars a month to hire tutors or teachers to do tutoring, but more than 80% of the academic performance does not improve significantly, because tutors do not have authority over children, children simply do not listen. Spend the money, can not achieve the effect, the extra are lost in. With standardized therapeutic interventions, most patients can be cured and not develop into adults with ADHD for life. The course of treatment will not be very long, generally 1 to 2 years, some serious can also be used for several years. Some parents have a negative attitude, mistakenly believing that lifelong medication is needed and that there is no hope, and do not cooperate with long-term follow-up treatment. This is a misconception that needs to be clarified. Medication is more effective when combined with behavioral treatment. From an early age, children should cultivate the habit of not using both sides of their mind, such as not reading books or watching TV during meals, or not playing with toys while doing homework. For children with excess energy, they can participate in outdoor activities such as playing ball and running, and should not be asked to become a very quiet and docile child. Parents, teachers and classmates should not discriminate against children with ADHD, let alone insult their personality and damage their self-esteem. In this case, give some medication, the child himself will feel new, get affirmation from all sides, in the process is a self-confidence development, so the time will be longer.
