What to do if a lumbar fracture doesn’t heal

Non-healing of lumbar spine fracture may be due to poor alignment of the fracture, poor physical condition of the patient, postoperative infection and other reasons. Different situations take different ways of treatment, common methods include surgical treatment, sedation, drug treatment and so on.
1. Poor fracture alignment: If the broken end of the lumbar vertebrae fracture is obviously displaced, the broken end of the fracture is obviously separated, and the soft tissues are embedded in the fracture end, etc., it will be difficult for the broken end to be completely aligned, and the fracture end is not solid, which will hinder the healing of the lumbar vertebrae. It is possible to remove the excess bone and soft tissues and perform internal fixation to restore the normal position of the lumbar vertebrae and reduce the compression on the nerves.
2. Patients with poor physical condition: If patients are older or have underlying diseases, their metabolism is slow and their cells are weak in self-renewal and repair, the recovery time of the fracture will be prolonged. It is recommended to stay in bed more often to reduce the pressure on the lumbar spine, which is conducive to the recovery of lumbar spine fracture. Eat more nutritious food to help the body recover and promote fracture healing.
3. Post-operative infection: If the lumbar spine fracture has been operated, factors such as not protecting the incision and improper sterilization of the incision may cause post-operative infection. Patients should rest in bed to reduce the pressure on the intervertebral disc and avoid the spread of infection. Use antibiotics such as cefazoxime and ceftazidime as prescribed by the doctor to treat the infection and promote the recovery of lumbar spine fracture.
Lumbar spine fracture does not heal may also be in the normal recovery stage, insufficient blood supply at the fracture site and other reasons. If the lumbar fracture does not improve for a long time, it is recommended that the patient consults the doctor in time and under the doctor’s guidance for treatment and recovery.
