How many types of kidney cancer are there?

In 2004, the WHO revised the 1997 histological classification of renal cell carcinoma, retaining the original four types of renal clear cell carcinoma, papillary renal cell carcinoma (types I and II), renal suspicious cell carcinoma and unclassified renal cell carcinoma, further dividing the collecting duct carcinoma into Bellini’s collecting duct carcinoma and medullary carcinoma, and adding multifocal cystic renal cell carcinoma, Xp11 translocation renal carcinoma, neuroblastoma associated carcinoma, mucinous tubular and spindle cell carcinoma. Xp11 translocated renal carcinoma, carcinoma associated with neuroblastoma, mucinous tubular and spindle cell carcinoma were added. Renal clear cell carcinoma is the most common, accounting for about 90%, papillary renal cell carcinoma (types I and II) for 6%, and renal suspicious cell carcinoma for about 3%.
