Precautions after kidney stone surgery

After kidney stone surgery, it is important to monitor stone expulsion and drink more water to increase urine volume and promote stone expulsion. Both ureteroscopic surgery and percutaneous nephrological surgery require double J tubes to be left in place after surgery. The double J tube is attached to the kidney at one end and to the bladder at the other end, mainly to promote the discharge of residual stones, to keep the ureter open, and to prevent and relieve inflammatory edema in the ureter, among other factors. The duration of retention varies from 4 to 6 weeks. During the retention of double J tube, the following matters should be noted: 1. Monitor the stone discharge: the stone discharge process may cause pain and other symptoms such as blockage of the ureter by stones, which should be promptly seen by the emergency room for proper management. 2. Drink more water: Drinking more water can prevent urinary tract infection and promote stone discharge. 3, less activity: if strenuous activities, like playing ball, may produce hematuria because of the friction of the double J tube. 4, avoid holding urine: because holding urine will make the urine in the bladder reflux to the kidney through the double J tube, which will easily cause urinary tract infections. If there are serious uncomfortable symptoms, fever, and a temperature of 38.5 degrees Celsius or more, it is recommended to come to the hospital immediately. After the double J-tube is removed, it is important to pay attention to not overworking, prevent from getting cold, and prevent infection. You should pay attention to the following conditions: avoid eating too much food containing calcium and oxalic acid, eating too much will lead to stone re-generation. Foods high in calcium mainly include milk, shrimp, etc. Foods rich in oxalic acid are mainly soy products, spinach, cilantro, and some fruits, strawberries and wood pineapple, which should be eaten as little as possible. If you have hyperuricemia, you must pay attention to a low purine diet, animal offal and alcohol must be limited.
