Facial palsy is roughly divided into three stages: (1) Acute progressive stage Within 1 week of onset. This is the period of progression of facial nerve inflammation and edema, and the condition of patients will gradually develop and worsen. In addition to modern medical treatment, early acupuncture (especially warm acupuncture or fire acupuncture) can be used during this period, which is an important time to treat facial palsy. It can improve the blood circulation of the patient’s face as early as possible to stop the further expansion of inflammation in order to promote the absorption of local facial nerve inflammatory edema and control the development of the disease. (2) Recovery period From 1 week to within 3 months after the onset of the disease. Treatment during this period focuses on the affected side of the face to promote the recovery of the facial nerve and paralyzed facial muscles. It is also a critical period for the treatment of facial palsy. (3) Posterior period The onset of the disease is from 3 months to more than half a year (between 1 month and 3 months from the recovery period, it can be classified as either the recovery period or the posterior period according to the patient’s specific situation, and the two periods cannot be absolutely divided into time and day). In this period, if the electromyogram indicates that there is no obvious myofibrillation potential, that is, the possibility of causing facial muscle spasm is unlikely, and can be given deep acupuncture, penetrating points or electroacupuncture to increase the amount of stimulation for severe, intractable disease; fire acupuncture treatment has good results. This period and according to the sequelae symptoms of symptomatic selection of points, with a variety of therapies, still have a certain recovery effect.
