How long can you live with kidney cancer?

The survival time of kidney cancer patients is determined according to the disease stage, treatment and patients’ physical condition. Kidney cancer is a malignant tumor originating from the urinary tubular epithelial system of the kidney parenchyma, which can be divided into stage I, II, III and IV according to the tumor diameter and metastasis. Patients with stage I and II tumors are relatively limited and have not yet metastasized, and the 5-year survival rate can reach 80% after surgical treatment. Stage III belongs to middle and late stage, where the tumor invades the surrounding fat, blood vessels and lymph nodes. After giving active surgical treatment, together with standardized adjuvant treatment, it has a significant effect on prolonging the survival time of patients. Stage IV, i.e. late stage, patients may have distant organ metastasis, the treatment effect is poorer, the mortality rate of patients is higher, and the survival time is about half a year on average. After treatment, kidney cancer patients need to pay attention to regular follow-up to detect tumor recurrence and metastasis as early as possible. Generally, stage I and II patients should be followed up once in 3-6 months; stage III and IV patients should be followed up once in 3 months. If there is any discomfort, patients should follow up immediately.
