What’s wrong with a child with cerebral palsy who twitches?

A child with cerebral palsy who jerks and twitches may be due to epileptic seizures. Cerebral palsy is a central motor disorder caused by non-progressive brain developmental abnormalities. It is mainly characterized by postural abnormalities (e.g. toes pointing to the ground, head tilting backward, etc.), motor developmental disorders (e.g. involuntary movements, ataxia, etc.), accompanied by sensory deficits, backwardness of intellect, and musculoskeletal abnormalities (e.g. scoliosis, tendon contractures, etc.). A child with cerebral palsy may have seizures. Epilepsy is a complication of cerebral palsy, and children with cerebral palsy, especially those with severe mental retardation, have seizures because of damage to the central nerve cells in the skull, which can easily lead to abnormal high-frequency discharges of the neurons in the brain, which can cause seizures. There may be other reasons for children with cerebral palsy to have seizures. It is recommended to go to the hospital in time, improve the examination to clarify the cause of the disease, and then give targeted treatment or therapy.
