The main treatment options for clinically symptomatic lumbar osteophytes are non-surgical and surgical. It is currently believed that approximately 80% to 90% of patients can be cured through non-surgical treatment. Cure means that the pain is relieved and function is restored, not that the osteophytes have disappeared. In the other 10% of patients, if the non-surgical treatment is not effective or worsens after 3 to 6 months of active, rational and systematic treatment, the appropriate surgical treatment should be given in time.
