As China enters an aging society, more and more elderly people need cataract surgery due to the improvement of living standards. There is no uniform age limit for cataract surgery in medicine. Some patients’ families believe that it is too dangerous to operate on elderly people over 90 years old. Some elderly people are in good health, have stable blood pressure and heart conditions, and can tolerate cataract surgery because they are mostly operated with anaesthesia (surface anesthesia), which causes very little pain. At present, the highest age for cataract surgery is 103 years old. Therefore, the ability to tolerate cataract surgery does not depend on age, but on the patient’s physical condition.
