Cost of leukemia treatment

In general, the first course of leukemia treatment is more expensive, costing about $100,000. If the patient is in complete remission, in good general condition, without infections and with fewer transfusions, the second course of treatment costs the patient about $30,000 to $40,000. However, if the patient is treated with imported or more effective drugs, the cost of the drugs will be $50,000 to $60,000. The patient will then need 9-12 courses of chemotherapy, and without a transplant, the entire course of treatment will cost more than $200,000. However, if the patient has serious complications, severe lung infections, fungal infections, or if platelet transfusions are ineffective, the patient’s costs are relatively higher.
