Ovarian tumours may recur after removal. In the case of malignant ovarian tumours, which may have spread and metastasised before surgery or were incompletely removed during surgery, they are prone to recurrence after surgery and should be followed up for a long time. The frequency of follow-up is every 3 months in the first year after surgery, every 4-6 months after the second year, and annually after the fifth year. The follow-up visits need to be based on the specific tumour pathology type and to determine the recovery from clinical symptoms, signs, general and pelvic examinations and tumour marker measurements. In addition, ultrasound examinations and, if necessary, CT or MRI examinations or PET-CT examinations are required. For tumours with secretory hormones, oestrogen and progesterone measurements should also be done.
