Toddlers can get kidney cancer too!

Recently, our renal tumor team has performed 3 cases of renal tumor surgery in pediatric patients aged 1, 2 and 4 years old respectively. 2 cases were abdominal masses and 1 case was seen for hematuria, CT examination suggested huge renal tumor, all of them underwent total nephrectomy on the affected side and the postoperative pathology was nephroblastoma. In two cases, the tumors of children were so big that they protruded from the belly, but the patients’ families did not find them in time, which delayed the development of the disease, and the tumors developed rapidly. 2.Why children get kidney tumor: Generally, pediatric kidney tumors are all nephroblastoma, and their early treatment is good. They are surgically removed first, and then adjuvant chemotherapy after surgery, the sooner the better, chemotherapy is given on the same day after surgery in foreign countries, and 7 days after surgery in China. 3.Pediatric nephroblastoma resection surgery is very traumatic due to the young age, but generally the operation area is usually not adherent, so it is not very difficult, mainly because of the young age and the difficulty of nursing. 4.Pediatric nephroblastoma should be treated with chemotherapy after surgery regardless of the stage, and it is recommended to consult the pediatric oncology department for the next step of treatment.
