There has been some confusion regarding screening for cervical lesions. The following guidelines are presented: The new guidelines include longer screening intervals and combined screening (using cervical liquid-based cytology and HPV testing).18 Several recommendations for cervical screening are as follows: (1) annual screening is not recommended for all age groups; (2) HPV should not be used as a stand-alone test for cervical cancer screening; (3) combined screening is recommended every 5 years for women aged 30-65 years (4) If combined screening is not recommended or available, cervical cytology should be performed every three years for women aged 21-65 years; (5) Combined screening is not recommended for women aged 21-29 years; (6) Cervical cancer screening should be avoided for women aged <21 years; (7) Women who have been vaccinated against HPV should be screened in the same way as non-vaccinated women; (8) If previous screening (8) If previous screening results are normal, continued screening is not recommended for women over 65 years of age.
