How long after menstruation does cervical cancer screening usually take?

Under normal circumstances, screening for cervical cancer can be performed as soon as the menstrual period is cleared. Cervical cancer screening is divided into liquid-based thin layer cytology and HPV virology. The endometrium bleeds during menstruation, which can affect the results of liquid-based thin layer cytology of the cervix. Therefore, liquid-based thin layer cytology cannot be done during menstruation or when there is vaginal bleeding. Moreover, cervical cancer screening during menstruation may cause retrograde infection and lead to cervical infection. Before having cervical cancer screening, it is important to note that you should not have intercourse or use vaginal medication within the first 3 days to avoid affecting the cervical cancer screening results. If cervical cancer screening results are problematic, further colposcopy, cervical biopsy and, if necessary, LEEP surgery or conization may be required depending on the specific results of the screening.
