Mao Zhiguo: Polycystic kidney disease is a common and serious hereditary kidney disease, and surgery cannot cure polycystic kidney disease. Moreover, there are no medications that can target the development and progression of renal cysts in clinical practice. The control of serious complications of polycystic kidney disease, the protection of renal function and the adjustment of the patient’s systemic condition are the focus of the international treatment of polycystic kidney disease nowadays. Our institute, like other polycystic kidney disease research centers abroad, is also actively working on the development of targeted therapeutic drugs for polycystic kidney disease, and some of them have already entered the clinical validation stage. However, these drugs have yet to be scientifically and comprehensively evaluated for their efficacy and risks before being directly applied in the clinic.
