How long a liver tumor can live after resection needs to be judged according to its pathological type, malignancy degree, surgical method, postoperative care as well as physical and psychological quality. Benign liver tumors generally have good prognosis and can survive for a long time after effective resection. For malignant liver tumor, i.e. hepatocellular carcinoma, if the patient can have complete resection of liver tumor and surrounding metastatic lymph nodes in early stage, retain enough liver tissues and no recurrence after surgery, most of the survival period can be more than 5 years; if the tumor cannot be completely removed, the survival period may be only a few months to about 1 year. Patients with advanced diffuse liver cancer or those who already have multiple metastatic cancers in the liver may have a minimum postoperative survival of 2-3 months. Patients who are young and in good health usually have a relatively longer survival period. Therefore, patients should be diagnosed and treated early when they develop liver tumors in order to improve their postoperative survival rate. After surgery, patients need to monitor and check regularly, take medication according to medical advice, and once recurrence or metastasis occurs, they should go to oncology or hepatobiliary surgery for treatment in time.
