Is synovial osteochondroma considered a major disease?

Synovial osteochondroma is generally not considered a major disease. Synovial osteochondroma is a benign lesion that typically occurs in large joints such as the knee, hip or shoulder. Patients mainly experience pain, swelling, joint effusion and limited movement. The usual treatment is surgery, which is now mainly minimally invasive arthroscopic surgery and conventional open surgery, the choice of which depends on the amount of synovial osteochondroma. Through active treatment, the recovery after surgery is usually good and will not jeopardize the patient’s life. Therefore, synovial osteochondroma is generally not considered a major disease. Although synovial osteochondroma is a benign tumor, there is a certain possibility that it may become malignant and form chondrosarcoma, so patients with synovial osteochondroma should be treated as soon as possible.
