Stellate ganglion block is used to treat sympathetic system lesions in the head and neck, upper extremities and upper chest associated with sympathetic nerve function, burning neuralgia and shingles.
The stellate ganglion block is a selective sympathetic block technique that covers the ipsilateral head, neck, upper extremities and upper thorax and is used primarily to treat lesions related to sympathetic nerve function.
Its main indications include complex localized pain syndromes; geniculate ganglion lesions; vascular diseases of the upper extremities, such as Raynaud’s disease, arterial embolism; herpes zoster or postherpetic neuralgia of the head, face, neck, etc., among others.
Contraindications to stellate ganglion block include coagulation mechanism disorders, recent acute heart attack, and other conditions.
