What to look for in left calf pain



Possible causes of left calf pain include: over-exercise or strain, trauma, lumbar spine degenerative disease, thromboembolic vasculitis, leptospirosis, and so on.

1. Excessive exercise or strain: recent strenuous exercise or long-term physical labor may cause leg muscle ligament, strain and calf pain.

2. Trauma: the calf is hit by external force or fall may cause calf injury and calf pain.

3. Degenerative lumbar spine disease: when lumbar degenerative spine disease compresses the nerve root, it can cause radiating pain in one side of the lower limb, which is manifested as pain and abnormal sensation in the buttock, posterior lateral thigh and lateral calf.

4. Thromboembolic vasculitis: Thromboembolic vasculitis is a kind of chronic vasculitis disease, common in the lower limbs. The patient manifests as one side of the limb cold, pale skin, abnormal sensation, pain, etc., which can lead to intermittent claudication. In severe cases, ischemic ulcers may appear on the lower limbs.

5. Leptospirosis: Leptospirosis is an infectious disease, mostly seen in the south of China. Patients infected with leptospirosis will appear acute fever, chills, fatigue, muscle aches and pains and other acute infections, calf gastrocnemius muscle pain and tenderness is one of the relatively specific symptoms.

Persistent calf pain suggests that patients go to the hospital as soon as possible, timely identification of the cause of the disease to be targeted treatment.
