Calf pain is most often caused by degenerative diseases of the spine, such as lumbar spinal stenosis and lumbar disc herniation. Leg pain is caused when spinal disorders occur that compress nerve roots in the nerve canal. Treating the compression caused by lumbar spine disease will “free” the compressed nerve and relieve the leg pain.
