There is no clear rule about how long to take Zuo Gui Wan to cure kidney yin deficiency. However, if there is no improvement in symptoms or worsening of symptoms during two weeks or during the period of taking the pills, or new serious symptoms appear, the pills should be stopped immediately and go to the hospital for consultation.
Zuo Gui Wan is composed of Radix Rehmanniae Praeparata, Semen Cuscutae, Radix Achyranthis Bidentatae, Gelsemium Glutinosum, Gelsemium Deer Antler, Rhizoma Dioscoreae, Cornu Cervi Pantotrichum and Fructus Lycii. It has the effect of nourishing the kidney and tonifying yin. It is used for lumbago and knee weakness caused by deficiency of true yin, night sweating (abnormal sweating after going to sleep and stopping sweating after waking up), mental fatigue (lack of spirit) and dryness of mouth.
Zuo Gui Wan is contraindicated for pregnant women and is forbidden for children.
Patients with kidney yin deficiency are advised to consult a doctor promptly. If medication is needed, it should be identified by a doctor and standardized treatment should be followed.
