Returning from the osteoporosis conference organized by the American Society of Bone and Mineral

This month, from April 7-11, as the only doctor from China, I had the honor to attend a small osteoporosis conference organized by the American Society of Bone and Bone Minerals in the small town of Aspen, Colorado, the mecca of American skiing. The conference was very small, except for 10 Young Scholar Award winners (6 from the United States, most of them are from famous American schools such as Harvard, Cornell, NIH, Baylor College of Medicine, etc., 1 from the University of Vancouver, Canada, 1 from the University of Melbourne, Australia, 1 from the University of Hamburg, Germany, and the last one is me from Shenzhen, China), most of them are famous in the field of osteoporosis. Professors, all of whom are doctors of orthopedics, endocrinology and other specialties or specialize in this field of research, with a total of no more than 50 participants. But I think it is the most beneficial since I participated in all academic meetings, the feelings of the meeting are as follows: Peng Songlin, Department of Spine Surgery, Shenzhen People’s Hospital 1) We young scholars, can communicate and discuss with these professors one-on-one, the meeting schedule specifically gives us young scholars half an hour each to speak and answer questions (all in English), such an opportunity can be said to be very rare, because the general 2) Another highlight of the conference was that each speaker could be interrupted by questions from the audience at any time during his or her presentation (this was very different from most academic conferences). The atmosphere of the conference was both lively (discussion) and relaxed (laughter). 3) Unlike the Chinese, even the top professors in their field, I saw them taking notes while listening, and even though the content of the presentation may not be related to their own field, they were very respectful of each speaker and tried to asked questions or participated in discussions whenever possible. As a young scholar, I felt very ashamed of myself because I rarely have the habit of taking notes at conferences and usually listen to others’ discussions as an audience member. This is something I will try to improve in my future work and learn from the old Americans. 4) In this conference, there was a very good report on the mechanism of the therapeutic effect of teriparatide (Fotex Oh, the only drug that promotes new bone formation), the current first-line treatment for osteoporosis, and many things were very novel. Talking with scholars in the US, the recognition and acceptance of Foteprednisol among the elderly is now very high, which I am afraid will take at least 5-10 years in China. 5) Through this conference, we met many bigwigs and young talents in the field of osteoporosis, and I believe we will have many opportunities to meet in the future, because we have common interests and topics, that is, how to minimize the pain of osteoporotic elderly and reduce the pain of osteoporosis. pain in older adults with osteoporosis and reduce the cost of treatment and side effects of medications.
