How to diagnose and treat metastatic bone cancer?

PET-CT can be considered for screening, which has high sensitivity but poor specificity and needs to be combined with local examinations. If the primary tumor is detected, the treatment of bone metastases should be based on the type of primary tumor. Multiple metastases should not be considered for surgery unless there is a fracture, paraplegia or its risk, but a combination of medical, radiological and surgical treatment should be considered. The presence of bone metastases means that the cancer is advanced, but it is not incurable, depending on the type of primary tumor. Breast cancer and prostate cancer have a relatively high chance of cure, while lung cancer and liver cancer are poorer.
