Don’t treat your child’s strange hyperactivity as “mental illness”

There are a group of children who seem to be naturally active, either blinking their eyes or moving their arms, always without leisure time, and even foul language. At first, this situation is often mistaken by adults as children in the naughty, or deliberately strange appearance, some parents will be unable to stop the child and feel irritated, blame scolding children. In fact, many children don’t want to do this inside, but they just can’t control their behavior – they suffer from pediatric Tourette-Obscene Syndrome. Gloria, an 11-year-old Chinese-American girl born in the United States, is a bright, lively girl who often can’t control the sounds she makes like barking dogs because she suffers from Tourette-Obscene Syndrome, and her friends around her often laugh at her because of it. Doctors recommended psychiatry or neurology for her symptoms, but after multiple treatments, Gloria’s condition remained uncontrolled and eventually progressed to the point where she had to take time off from school. Earlier this year, her family brought her to see Chen Liang, director of the TCM department at Shenzhen Children’s Hospital. After a period of treatment, Gloria recovered and was able to live a normal life again like other children. The tic-obscene syndrome is a neuropsychiatric disorder characterized by tics, which are sudden, involuntary, rapid movements or vocalizations that occur repeatedly and in the same way. In recent years, the incidence of the syndrome has been increasing in children, with varying degrees of interference impairing their cognitive function and development, and affecting their ability to adapt to society. Currently, there are several causes and pathogenesis of tic-obscene syndrome in children: first, abnormal functional development of certain tissues in the brain; second, related to the development and dysfunction of the basal ganglia of the brain; third, caused by mental and environmental factors, genetic factors, embryonic development and infection, biochemical metabolism, improper medication and other factors; fourth, related to poor family environment. For example, children who live in a bad family environment for a long time are always in a state of mental tension, which leads to psychological and neurological regulation dysfunction; fifth, children are withdrawn and angry, nervous, psychological stress, such as changes in the living environment; sixth, long time playing video games or premature intellectual development. Gloria’s symptoms are typical of tic-obscene syndrome, and the treatment of tic-obscene syndrome in children is mainly based on the different physical conditions and symptoms of the child using evidence-based treatment. The treatment is based on an evolved pediatric blink formula, along with exercise, lifestyle changes, and psychological counseling. In addition, children are prone to Tourette’s syndrome, but parents should also pay special attention to some common and difficult to treat diseases such as chalazion, stubborn urticaria, prolonged cough and diarrhea. Because of the hot climate in Shenzhen children are prone to heavy liver fire and are prone to eye disease – chalazion, which first appears as a small hard nodule on the eyelid and gradually increases in size over time. He suggests that chalazion has a long and recurring onset and can be controlled by TCM treatment in the early stages of the disease to avoid the pain of surgery. With the emergence of toxic side effects of chemicals, the increasing number of pharmacogenic diseases, and the high cost of biochemical drugs, people are calling for a return to nature, hoping to use natural medicines and green plants to treat diseases and health care, while Chinese medicine’s “The unique efficacy and simplicity of Chinese medicine are gradually being recognized and noticed by the world. The development of Chinese medicine should adapt to the needs of the times, and the treatment of diseases should be guided by the theory of Chinese medicine, and Western medicine should be combined with Chinese medicine to prove the therapeutic effect, and it is also emphasized that the treatment of Chinese medicine should be “scientific theory + heritage”.
