Many patients in clinical practice complain of eye discomfort, and many of them have dry eye. Dry eye, also known as conjunctival dryness, is a very common ocular surface disease. It is a general term for a group of diseases characterized by various causes of tear quality and quantity or kinetic abnormalities, resulting in tear film instability and ocular surface tissue lesions, and accompanied by ocular discomfort. Common symptoms include dryness, foreign body sensation, burning sensation, itchy eyes, photophobia, eye redness, blurred vision, fluctuating visual acuity, easy visual fatigue, unexplained discomfort, and inability to tolerate smoky environments. If it is accompanied by dry mouth and joint pain, it is called dry syndrome. The occurrence of dry eye syndrome is related to eye diseases and working and living environment. Middle-aged and old-aged people with eye diseases, teenagers with poor eyesight, computer workers, teachers, office workers and other people who use their eyes excessively are prone to suffer from dry eye syndrome. The treatment of dry eye syndrome should start with a detailed eye examination, except for eye diseases, eliminate the causes, and choose different treatment methods according to different conditions, such as artificial tear drops, oral medication and tear plugs.
