How can prostate cancer be treated effectively?

Recently, an elderly man, 77 years old, was admitted to our urology department; he was diagnosed with prostate cancer, combined with diabetes, hypertension and other medical diseases, and had a history of cardiovascular bypass, which made radical prostate cancer surgery more risky. Prostate cancer mainly occurs in older men, and the age of onset is usually above 60 years old. In Europe and the United States, prostate cancer is the most common malignant tumor in men, and its mortality rate is the second highest among all malignant tumors. In the past 30 years, with the change of social environment and improvement of people’s living standard, the incidence of prostate cancer in China has been increasing year by year. Although the adoption of prostate-specific antigen (PSA) examination has significantly improved the early diagnosis of prostate cancer in recent years, many patients are still diagnosed at an advanced stage or are too old to tolerate major surgery, thus losing the opportunity for surgical treatment. Cryoablation can achieve the effect of “good tumor elimination with low risk of surgery” because it only requires the needle to be punctured to the lesion under the guidance of B-ultrasound or CT, and through the tip of the needle to form an ice ball to form a very low temperature below -100℃ to destroy the tumor cells, resulting in ischemia and necrosis of the tumor tissue, thus killing the tumor cells. In addition to limited tumors, patients with distant metastases and poor health conditions that cannot tolerate radical surgery can also get the chance to have surgery. The patient underwent cryoablation of the prostate after completing various tests and recovered very well after the surgery, getting out of bed on the third day and being discharged four days after the surgery. The cryoablation technology has been developed for nearly 30 years abroad and is now widely regarded by the medical community at home and abroad as a green treatment that is both safe and effective. Cryoablation has a wide range of tumors and can be applied to all kinds of solid tumors throughout the body. It has many advantages such as minimally invasive, precise positioning, high safety, wide indications and real-time monitoring. It is because of these advantages that this elderly patient was given a chance for surgical treatment without any surgical complications, which improved the quality of life of the patient.
