Basal body temperature curve explanation & application example (illustration)
I. The body temperature measured before the body wakes up after a long sleep (6 hours) and before any activity is performed is called basal body temperature.
Second, the principle of basal body temperature
The basal body temperature of normal women of childbearing age varies cyclically, as does the menstrual cycle, and this temperature change is related to ovulation.
The length of the menstrual cycle varies from person to person, ranging from 21 to 35 days, with an average of 28 days, separated by the day of ovulation and divided into the follicular phase before ovulation and the luteal phase after ovulation. The length of the follicular phase varies, but the luteal phase is fixed at about 14 days and the next two days. The day after ovulation, the luteinizing body forms and secretes luteinizing hormone, which causes the body temperature to rise by about 0.6 degrees Celsius, resulting in high and low body temperature changes. The high temperature period lasts about 12-16 days (average 14 days).
1.If there is no pregnancy, the corpus luteum atrophies and stops secreting luteinizing hormone, the body temperature drops and returns to the basic line, and menstruation comes.
2.If pregnant, the luteinizing corpuscle is supported by the hormone secreted by the embryo and continues to secrete luteinizing hormone, and the body temperature continues to be high.
3.If the ovaries are not functioning well, there is no ovulation and no corpus luteum formation, the body temperature will continue to be low.
How to measure and record the basal body temperature
1.Buy a basal thermometer. The basic thermometer is different from the general thermometer, it has a dense scale, generally 36.7 degrees Celsius (scale 24) as the division of high and low temperature. (36 degrees – scale 10; 38 degrees – scale 50).
2.Place the basic thermometer on the pillow where you can get it at hand before going to bed, and put it under your tongue for three minutes when you wake up the next day, before you get up and move around, and record it on the basic body temperature chart.
3.For those who have difficulty in measuring body temperature in the morning, you can measure it at a fixed time every day, remembering not to exercise vigorously or drink hot or cold food for half an hour beforehand.
4, menstruation and intercourse days should be marked with additional marks, in case of fever, excessive drinking, late sleeping and late waking, etc. will affect the body temperature, should also be specially noted.
The basal body temperature can be used for all aspects of a woman’s health. See the next 6 illustrations for more details!
The basal body temperature of a woman is as regular as her physiological cycle. The basal body temperature of a woman with normal ovulation is as shown in the figure above: from the day of ovulation to the day of ovulation, the low temperature period lasts about two weeks; from the day of ovulation to the day of the next menstrual period, the body temperature rises by 0.3 to 0.5 ℃, and the high temperature period also lasts about two weeks.
This kind of low temperature curve is called biphasic temperature curve, which indicates that the ovaries have normal ovulation function, and ovulation usually occurs before or during the process of rising from low to high temperature.
The graph indicates a normal menstrual cycle, the basal body temperature curve shows the standard high and low temperature biphasic changes.
For those who want to have a baby, you can use this chart to predict the next ovulation day.
For those who are not planning to get pregnant, you can plan your life according to your cycle status.
This chart indicates pregnancy and high temperature lasting more than 16 days.
For those who want to have a baby, congratulations, you are finally pregnant! Go to the hospital to further confirm the good news and make preparations!
JM who do not have a plan to get pregnant need to consider early 🙁
This chart indicates that the luteal phase is insufficient and the high temperature period lasts less than 12 days.
If you want to have a baby, you can ask your doctor to give you luteinizing hormone to increase the rate of embryo implantation and reduce the chance of early miscarriage.
For those who are not planning to have a baby, if their menstrual cycle is too short or disordered due to luteal deficiency, they can also ask their doctor to give luteinizing hormone supplementation treatment.
The graph indicates early miscarriage, and the high temperature is more than 16 days before it drops.
Please go to the hospital as soon as possible to ask your doctor to check if the miscarriage is complete.
This chart indicates anovulation, with persistent low temperature without high and low temperature biphasic changes.
