What to do if you feel uncomfortable after using a ventilator

Non-invasive ventilators use airflow at a certain pressure to open the obstructed airway for treatment purposes. Therefore, some people may feel dry mouth due to the repeated entry and exit of high velocity airflow during the treatment. In this case, you can connect a humidifier to the ventilator to reduce the discomfort of dry mouth. You can also put a pot of water in the bedroom. Just as wearing glasses for the first time can be uncomfortable, wearing a non-invasive ventilator for the first time can feel a little stuffy. This is because extra air pressure enters the airway while the ventilator is operating. When you breathe in, the pressure pushes the gas into your lungs, making it feel easier to inhale, but when you exhale, the same pressure prevents the gas from being expelled, and you feel a little stuffy at that point. Normally, this feeling of stuffiness will disappear after a few days of wearing. If you feel stuffy all the time, it is recommended to go to a hospital to have the pressure titrated again and to check for any other combined cardiopulmonary disorders.
