Food therapy for traumatic brain injury

  Traumatic brain injury can be divided into 3 types: scalp injury, skull injury, and intracranial tissue (brain) injury. But often combined, the more common is concussion (concussion). Therefore, the principle of food therapy for this disease is mainly to relieve blood stasis in the early stage, accompanied by food to promote the clearing and lowering of turbidity, aromatic and open the orifice, such as panax pseudoginseng, hawthorn, patchouli, pelargonium, nourishing vegetables and other products; in the late stage, it is appropriate to eat nutritious food such as grapes, black beans, wolfberry, cinnamon meat, turtle meat, etc. to nourish qi and blood and nourish the liver and kidney. In addition, because the main symptom of traumatic brain injury is vertigo, and in severe cases, nausea, vomiting, headache or even coma, it is advisable to eat more fresh vegetables, fruits and beans in the diet, avoid spicy, fishy and other thick flavors and tobacco and alcohol stimulating products, and avoid all things that help fire and produce phlegm.
  In Chinese medicine, the disease is classified into two types.
  Qi stagnation and blood stasis type
  (Preliminary stage): There are 3 types: mild, medium and severe, with different degrees of injury. Mild cases only appear dizziness, blurred vision, tinnitus in a short time and disappear quickly; moderate cases can faint on the spot and wake up within a few minutes to an hour, mostly with headache, dizziness or nausea and vomiting, usually lasting 1 to 2 days, many up to several days, with irritability or mild fever; severe cases have a longer period of delirium, often complicated by light and heavy head, face, limbs and spine injuries, and even death after the injury to 1 day and night.
  Qi and blood deficiency, liver and kidney weakness type
  (Late stage): In this stage, the clinical symptoms include persistent dizziness, weakness, short voice, no speech, strong neck, shortness of breath in sleep, little diet, dry stools, and soft waist and knees. Local bruising, hardness, swelling and pain, or bleeding or epistaxis, red tongue with petechiae, and sunken, thin and astringent pulse.

  I. Qi stagnation and blood stasis type
  (1) Peach kernel congee
  Composition】10-15 grams of peach kernel, 30-60 grams of round-grained rice.
  Functions】Eliminating blood stasis and relieving pain, activating blood circulation and reducing swelling.
  Usage and dosage】Peach kernel is pounded like mud, add water and grind off the slag, boil japonica rice as porridge with the juice. 2 times in 1 day, eat warm on an empty stomach, and take for 7-10 days.
  (2) Hawthorn Ice Sugar Decoction
  Composition】15 grams of hawthorn, appropriate amount of rock sugar.
  Functions】Activate blood circulation and disperse blood stasis, harmonize the stomach and clear heat. It is suitable for patients with traumatic brain injury and hypertension and hyperlipidemia.
  Usage and dosage】Take with water, once a day for 10-15 days.
  (3) Chuanxiong Tea
  Composition】Chuanxiong 3-6 grams, flower tea 3-6 grams.
  Functions】Activate blood circulation and dispel blood stasis, move Qi and relieve depression, dispel wind and relieve pain.
  Usage and dosage】Take the juice with water and drink as tea for 7 to 10 days.
  (4) Saffron Drink
  Composition】Safflower 10 grams, sophora 10 grams, angelica 10 grams, brown sugar, white wine appropriate amount.
  Functions and Indications】To invigorate blood circulation, remove blood stasis, promote circulation and relieve pain. It is suitable for hematoma and pain of fracture.
  Dosage and Administration】Fry safflower and sumac first, then add angelica and white wine and fry again. Remove the residue, extract the juice and add brown sugar. Take 2-3 times daily for 3-4 weeks before eating.
  Second, deficiency of qi and blood, liver and kidney weakness type
  (1) Tianma pig brain soup
  Composition】1 pig brain, 10 grams of asparagus.
  Functions and Indications】Tonic marrow, calm the liver and relieve pain. It is especially suitable for those who suffer from headache and dizziness and insomnia after traumatic brain injury.
  The use and dosage】Pig brain, asparagus into a pot, add water, cook and stew for 1 hour with a gentle fire into a thick soup, drink soup and eat pig brain. 2 times a day, and even serve 3 to 4 weeks.
  (2) snapper nourishing kidney soup
  Composition] 1 snapper (300 grams or more), 30 grams of Chinese wolfberry, 15 grams of rehmannia.

  (3) Ginseng and lotus meat soup

  (4) Angelica Wuxia pig blood soup
