GERD cough is a clinical syndrome mainly due to reflux of gastric acid and gastric contents into the esophagus, resulting in a cough as the main manifestation. GERD cough has the following characteristics: 1. It is related to body position, and the cough worsens when bending over or when abdominal pressure increases; 2. aggravated at night and worse in the recumbent position; 4. GERD cough can also be accompanied by digestive symptoms such as acid reflux, nausea and belching. In the case of a typical GERD cough, the initial diagnosis can be made by clinical manifestations, i.e., cough combined with GI symptoms, and then experimental treatment is given, and if the symptoms are relieved, the cough is considered to be caused by GERD. If the symptoms are atypical and only present as a cough, a gastroscopy or 24-hour pH test of the esophagus is required to clarify whether the cough is GERD-free.
