Astigmatism is a name that we have been used to for a long time, but according to Professor Liu Longqian, the head of the Sichuan Optometric Medicine Group, it should now be called ciliary muscle paralysis optometry. The purpose of the medication we use is to paralyze the ciliary muscle, thus eliminating the change in refractive state caused by the child’s own adjustment. In simple terms, this means that the examination may be myopic before the ciliary muscle paralysis, and the examination may change to farsightedness through the ciliary muscle paralysis. Therefore, in the spirit of medicine, children younger than 14 years of age, or older than 14 years of age with a higher initial prescription need to be considered for ciliary muscle palsy optometry.
