My dry eye clinic is scheduled until the end of next year, but there are still so many patients who are not in line for an appointment. And more and more dry eye patients are coming from far and wide to the clinic, and every time I refuse patients to add their numbers, it makes me very heavy and stressful. Dry eye disease is increasingly affecting people’s daily lives and work, so here are some tips to keep away from dry eye disease: 1. To effectively prevent dry eye disease, the best way is to develop the habit of blinking more. Dry eye disease is a stress-related condition, the problem is that the eyes stare in one direction for a long time, we recommend that you blink more often to ensure that the “tear film” can disperse water to the cornea to prevent dry eyes. The best way to relieve eye strain is to take proper rest and not to operate continuously. If you are an eyeglass wearer, it is important to have the right pair of glasses; for people over 40, it is best to use bifocal lenses or wear glasses with a lower prescription when typing. Work posture and distance is also very important, try to keep on 60cm to distance, adjust a most appropriate posture, so that the line of sight can be kept down about 30o, such an angle can make the neck muscles relax, and make the eye surface exposed to the air to minimize the area. 2, keep your eyes moist: moisture exposed to air or specific climate will evaporate, in order to save as much of your tears as possible, it is recommended to take the following precautions to reduce tear evaporation. (1), keep the room humidity between 30% and 50%. Add a humidifier in an air-conditioned room to add humidity to the dry room air. (2) Avoid direct eye contact with hair dryers, heat dryers, and electric fans (3) Be sure to wear eye protection on windy days. (3) Check the medications you are currently using The inappropriate use of some medications can directly damage the tear film of the eye surface and destroy the epithelial cells of the eye surface, leading to dry eyes, such as antiviral eye drops, simple decongestant eye drops containing naphthazoline that constrict small blood vessels, eye drops containing toxic preservatives. Therefore, it is recommended to go to a professional doctor and try to avoid the use of drugs that may cause dry eye aggravation. 4. Pay attention to your diet, physical health is important to keep your eyes moist. Avoid smoking, alcohol and spicy food. People who work in front of computers for a long time should eat more fresh vegetables and fruits, and increase the intake of vitamins A, C and E. Drink more water. 5, in order to avoid reflections or unclear fluorescent screen, the computer should not be placed on the opposite or back of the window, the ambient lighting should be soft, if there is a window behind the operator should pull the curtains, to avoid the bright light directly to the screen reflected bright images caused by eye fatigue. Usually, the average person blinks less than 5 times per minute to dry out the eyes. A person working in front of a computer blinks only one-third as often as usual, thus reducing the secretion of intraocular lubricants and enzymes. You should blink more often and let your eyes rest at least once every hour.
