Knowledge of peripheral facial palsy

Peripheral facial palsy is characterized by flaccid paralysis of the facial expression muscles on the same side, loss of facial expression movements, loss of forehead lines, inability to frown and close the eyes, discomfort of tearing in the affected eye, shallowing of the nasolabial folds, drooping of the corners of the mouth, skewing to the healthy side, more pronounced when speaking, crying, laughing or showing the teeth, cheek puffing and leakage of air, and leakage of fluid from the corners of the mouth when eating; the condition often worsens progressively in the acute phase (1 to 7 days), and the resting phase is from 8 to 20 days, The recovery period is from 20 to 60 days, and the sequelae period is after 60 days. According to Chinese medicine, the disease is caused by the deficiency of positive qi, deficiency of ligaments and veins, failure to strengthen the external guard, the evil of wind and cold attacking Yangming and Shaoyang veins and ligaments, or wind, phlegm and blood stasis blocking the veins and ligaments, resulting in paralysis of qi and blood, loss of moistening of the meridians and tendons, and relaxation of the disease. Fatigue, anger and other factors are related. Modern medicine believes that wind or viral infections cause edema and degeneration of the nerve sheath, resulting in nerve fiber compression and progressive hypoxic damage, which leads to hyperalgesia or loss of innervation function. Therefore, decompression treatment in the acute stage is particularly important.
