Rather than treating spleen yin or spleen yang deficiency, Xiangsha Liujun Wan is used to treat spleen qi deficiency. Xiangsha Liujun Pill is composed of Codonopsis, Atractylodes macrocephala, Poria, Pericarpium Citri Reticulatae and Semen Heterophyllum, which can (regulate spleen and stomach qi) and harmonize the stomach. It is used for spleen deficiency and Qi stagnation, indigestion, belching (burping) with little food, distension of the epigastrium (abdomen), and loose stools. This medicine is contraindicated in pregnant women. Spleen-Yin deficiency is characterized by reduced diet, noisy stomach (stomach sensation similar to hunger, emptiness with burning), bloating after eating, dry mouth and tongue, emaciation and constipation, which can be treated with Sasanqua Maitong Tang and Yi Stomach Tang. Spleen-Yang deficiency is characterized by abdominal pain, warmth and pressure, loose stools or undigested food, or swelling, dysuria (unsmooth urination), or women with scanty and scanty discharge, lack of warmth in the limbs, and fear of cold, which can be treated with Pseudostemonium Rehmanniae Soup, Xiao Jianzhong Soup, and so on.
