I have a thyroid nodule, what should I do?

According to epidemiological statistics, the prevalence of thyroid nodules in China is 20-76% after ultrasound examination, which means that more than half of the population who have thyroid ultrasound will have thyroid nodules. In fact, thyroid nodules have a high incidence, so the main concern of patients is whether the nodules are malignant, i.e. thyroid cancer. In fact, the prevalence of thyroid cancer among thyroid nodules is only about 5%, so there is no need to panic after finding a thyroid nodule, but to go to the endocrine clinic for professional consultation and treatment. 2. The endocrinologist will make the next treatment according to the size of the nodule, the echogenicity, the presence of calcification, the blood flow in the nodule, the patient’s gender, age, past medical history and family history as described in the ultrasound. 3. If the endocrinologist suspects malignancy based on the ultrasound results, he or she will first perform a fine needle aspiration of the thyroid nodule and recommend surgery or follow-up according to the pathology results. 4. Most patients with thyroid nodules only need to undergo follow-up thyroid ultrasound once every 3-6 months.
