Having kidney stones in pregnancy has certain effects. Generally speaking, kidney stones found during pregnancy are usually treated conservatively. If the stone does not have any symptoms, it usually does not require treatment as long as you drink more water and urinate regularly to prevent urinary tract infections. If the stone causes painful symptoms during pregnancy, medication can usually be used to relieve the painful effects on the body. If the stone causes obstruction during pregnancy, a double J tube can usually be left in place to drain the urine and is usually treated conservatively. If a kidney stone is found before the patient becomes pregnant, it is usually best to remove the kidney stone first and then consider pregnancy later to avoid health effects at a later stage.
