Laparoscopic treatment of pediatric hernia

Pediatric hernia is a common pediatric surgical condition caused by congenital non-closure of the peritoneal sphincter, mostly in the inguinal region (i.e., above the scrotum or labia majora), and is medically referred to as an “inguinal hernia”. A pediatric hernia may occur days, months or years after birth. The mass is usually seen above or inside the scrotum after straining, such as crying or running, and disappears when the child is quiet. In children with inguinal hernia older than 6 months, the chances of self-healing are rare, so surgery should be performed electively, otherwise, once intussusception occurs, it will not only involve the intestinal canal or ovaries and fallopian tubes, but also cause testicular atrophy, which will affect the fertility requirements in adulthood and can even be life-threatening. Laparoscopic hernia sac ligation has been started in recent years. In fact, it is performed under the surveillance of laparoscope by accurately sewing the hernia sac at the inner ring with one stitch to achieve the purpose of high ligation. It has the incomparable advantages of traditional surgery: 1. 2. Safe and reliable, low recurrence rate after surgery. 3.Little damage and fast recovery. 4.The operation can simultaneously explore the contralateral internal ring opening (i.e. whether there is a hidden hernia). 5.Surgical trauma is slight and the disturbance to the abdominal cavity is small, thus the possibility of incisional hernia, incisional infection and intestinal adhesion is also reduced to a minimum.
