Spontaneous pneumothorax should be treated with surgery as soon as possible

Spontaneous pneumothorax is commonly seen in young men and the most common cause is the rupture of an isolated pulmonary blister. It often causes symptoms of chest pain and chest tightness. With the wide development of thoracoscopic techniques, it is believed that thoracoscopic surgery should be performed immediately after the first occurrence according to current studies. Although surgery does not completely prevent the occurrence of re-pneumothorax, it can significantly reduce the reoccurrence rate. It is generally believed that the probability of reoccurrence after the first attack is >50%, the probability of reoccurrence after the second attack is >80%, and the probability of reoccurrence after surgery is <2%.
