Treatment principles of liver cancer: Radical treatment is preferred if the physical condition allows, the systemic examination meets the standard, the risk is controllable and the technology is feasible; for patients who cannot be cured, comprehensive treatment is adopted. Treatment methods of liver cancer: While treating the underlying disease and controlling the causative factors, the following treatment methods can be chosen according to the condition and stage of the disease. 1.Liver transplantation: It is the most thorough treatment for liver disease, which can solve all diseases caused by liver such as liver cancer, hepatitis, cirrhosis and portal hypertension at the same time. The 5-year survival rate of liver transplantation for early stage liver cancer is about 80%. 2.Partial hepatectomy: It is the radical treatment for liver cancer. According to the estimation of tumor size, number, location, distribution and the amount of residual liver, most patients with liver cancer including those with combined branch vessel cancer embolism or bile duct cancer embolism can achieve radical treatment through partial hepatectomy, hemihepatectomy, extended hemihepatectomy and trilobar hepatectomy. The 5-year survival rate of liver resection for early stage liver cancer (less than 3cm) is about 60-70%. 3.Minimally invasive treatment for liver cancer (including microwave ablation and radiofrequency ablation treatment): applicable to early stage liver cancer less than 3cm, and most liver cancers less than 2cm can be radically treated. 4.Interventional embolization chemotherapy (TACE) for hepatocellular carcinoma: Applicable to patients with advanced multiple hepatocellular carcinoma or those who are not eligible for radical resection. 5.Radiation therapy for hepatocellular carcinoma: It is suitable for patients who cannot undergo radical resection in advanced stage, combined with vascular bile duct cancer embolization, or patients with other organ metastases. 6.Systemic chemotherapy for advanced hepatocellular carcinoma: Applicable to patients with multiple lung metastases or multiple abdominal metastases. 7.Targeted therapy, biological therapy and traditional Chinese medicine: as adjuvant therapy to the above treatment methods. Each of the above treatment methods produces therapeutic effects through different treatment principles and pathways. For intermediate and advanced liver cancer, the efficacy of combined treatment of multiple methods is better than that of single method treatment. The arrangement of treatment methods must be individually designed by doctors with long-term professional treatment experience according to the patient’s condition and physical status, so as not to lose control but also to avoid over-treatment. Thanks to the advancement of medical technology, the viewpoint of liver cancer treatment has been greatly different from the past. There are also more and more effective, safer and less side effects in treating liver cancer. In short, the earlier liver cancer is detected and the smaller the tumor is, the easier, less traumatic, less expensive and more effective the treatment will be. Even for advanced liver cancer, longer survival time and better quality of life can be achieved through reasonable treatment arrangement.
