Couples who have lived together for more than one year without contraception and whose female partner does not become pregnant due to male factors are called male infertility. In recent years, the incidence of male infertility has gradually increased, bringing pain to many families and putting a heavy psychological pressure on many men. It is reported that about 15% of couples worldwide are infertile, with male infertility accounting for about 40% to 50%. In the past half century, due to environmental, psychological and social factors, the quantity and quality of male sperm have shown a significant decline, and male reproductive health is under serious threat. The causes of male infertility are complex, and clinicians still find it difficult to treat the disease. Modern medicine uses IVF and artificial insemination, but they are expensive and have a low success rate. In Chinese medicine, it is believed that “the kidney collects sperm” and “is the master of reproduction”, and male infertility is most closely related to the kidney. Clinical practice has proven that Chinese medicine is effective in treating male infertility by promoting the liquefaction of semen, increasing the number of sperm, improving sperm vitality and viability, and improving the quality of semen in general, due to various causes of oligospermia, weak sperm, and teratozoospermia. We have summarized our experience in treating male infertility over the years and come up with a set of effective “four-step diagnosis and treatment method for male infertility”: 1) clarify the diagnosis and type of infertility; 2) search for possible causes of infertility; 3) identify the symptoms of Chinese medicine; 4) develop a comprehensive treatment plan combining Chinese and Western medicine according to the situation. We have also developed a variety of in-hospital preparations such as Benglong cream, Yixiangling, spermogenic agreement formula, and spermogenic agreement formula, which have achieved satisfactory results in the treatment of male infertility.
