Causes of male infertility

There are many factors affecting male fertility, and sometimes multiple causative factors act on different sites of the hypothalamic-pituitary-gonadal axis in men, which manifest clinically as male infertility. The etiology of male infertility is complex, involving genetic disorders, reproductive tract infections and immunologic factors. Currently, only a small percentage of male infertility can be identified with a clear cause, while 60%-75% of patients cannot find the causative factors related to male infertility. That is, the routine physical examination and endocrine examination are normal, only the semen laboratory test shows different degrees of semen quality decline. The following is a summary of the World Health Organization (WHO) of the various causes of male infertility accounted for the proportion of: Sexual dysfunction 1.7% Genitourinary tract infections 6.6% Congenital anomalies 2.1% Acquired disorders 2.6% Varicocele 12.3% Endocrine disorders 0.6% Immunological factors 3.1 % Other anomalies 3.0% Unexplained 75.1 % From the above data, we can see that up to 75.1 % of infertility is currently not found. 75.1% of infertility has no clear cause, and even among the known causes of male infertility, the pathogenesis has not yet been elucidated. Therefore, the diagnosis and treatment of male infertility has its own complexity and specificity. Unexplained male infertility may be caused by a variety of factors, such as endocrine disorders caused by long-term stress and environmental factors, active oxygen elements and genetic defects. Therefore, the current treatment for unexplained causes adopts comprehensive treatment, including drugs to improve sperm energy, drugs to participate in the metabolic process of sperm, drugs to improve the activity of certain enzymes within the sperm or semen, drugs to improve the survival environment of sperm, and so on. Chinese medicine has accumulated more than 2,000 years of experience in treating male infertility, and it is possible to combine the above drugs with Chinese medicine to treat male infertility. Clinically, it is often a combination of 3-4 medicines, including Chinese herbs. A course of treatment lasts for 2-3 months. If the effect of medication is not obvious after 6 months, it is recommended to change the program or choose other treatments, such as surgery or assisted reproduction treatment.
