Can a nodule diagnosed as benign be ignored?

Some patients who are diagnosed with benign nodules after a series of tests feel that they can rest easy in the future, but this is not true. If you are a patient with a thyroid nodule that has been diagnosed as benign, you still need to be followed up regularly. We recommend that you visit the hospital every 6 to 18 months to have your serum thyrotropin measured and an ultrasound done. If the ultrasound reveals the following changes in the nodule: an increase in size of more than 50%, rich blood flow, hypoechogenicity, heterogeneity, and unclear borders, then a fine needle aspiration biopsy is needed to determine if the nodule is malignant or for surgical treatment. If there is no change in the nodule after ultrasound examination, you can continue to review it as required.
