What is a hemangioma?

Hemangioma is a common benign tumor in pediatrics. About 3/4 pediatric hemangiomas are present at birth, and the rest also appear within 1 year of age, and are more common in female infants than male infants. Hemangiomas occur in the skin of face and limbs, affecting the aesthetic appearance, and can also cause bacterial infection due to trauma, friction, scratching and bleeding. Some hemangiomas grow quickly, then slowly, or even disappear on their own, but some hemangiomas have a persistent growth trend. Parents should closely observe the growth of hemangiomas in infants, and consult the doctor in time if necessary. During the observation period, special attention should be paid to the following aspects: 1. Be careful that the patient’s fingernails or other sharp objects puncture the hemangioma lesion; 2. Avoid the use of irritating detergents when washing the local area; 3. If it is found that the hemangioma lesion increases rapidly within a short period of time and has a tendency of spreading, the patient should consult the doctor in time.
