A neck lump is an abnormally enlarged lymph node in the neck or an abnormal mass in the neck. The neck is a lump-prone area of the body. The relationship between neck lumps and common neck diseases is roughly as follows: submandibular, under the chin or lateral neck lumps are flat and round, medium texture, smooth surface, movable, sometimes large and sometimes small, mild pressure and pain (at the same time in the oral cavity, pharynx, larynx, etc. often have inflammation), often chronic lymphadenitis; such as lumps of redness, swelling, heat, pain is obvious, often for acute lymphadenitis. When the primary lesion disappears, acute and chronic lymphadenitis then gradually disappear. If the lymph nodes are painlessly enlarged at the beginning, and gradually break down, forming skin fistulas, ulcers and forming scars and spreading to the surrounding area, this is mostly lymphatic tuberculosis. The disease is most common in infants and preschoolers, and is rare in people over 30 years of age. Lumps located in the front of the neck on both sides of the lower trachea that are single, well defined, smooth, and can move up and down with swallowing are usually thyroid adenomas. When one side of the thyroid gland is felt to be enlarged, hardened, with an uneven surface, and when swollen lymph nodes are felt nearby, we should be alert to the possibility of thyroid gland. When feeling the middle of the neck, above the laryngeal node, more round, smooth, soft, stretching the tongue with the upward movement of the mass, especially after birth that is found, this is mostly a thyroglossal cyst. Located in the submandibular round, smooth and soft, hand pressure is deformed, relaxation of compression gradual recovery of the mass is mostly hemangioma; such as the mass of tough, smooth, clear boundary, no pressure and pain, good activity, mostly dermatoid cysts. If the mass is located in the lower part of the earlobe, with clear boundary, nodular shape, tough texture and no pain, it is often parotid gland mixed tumor. If there are multiple groups of enlarged painless lymph nodes in the neck with normal surface skin, we should be alert to the possibility of lymphoma. When touching the upper side of the neck, supraclavicular fossa of the mass, and the texture is hard, initially single, no pressure and pain, movable; then the mass increases, can be more than one into a group, into a string, fixed, should be suspected of malignant tumors lymph node metastasis possible.
