Neck masses are numerous and can occur in various areas of the neck, both single and multiple, including benign and malignant tumors, congenital diseases, inflammatory diseases, and other types of diseases. However, there are certain patterns and characteristics in their development. First of all, the probability of each type of disease has a rough ratio: 1. Malignant tumors, thyroid diseases and inflammatory diseases, congenital diseases and benign tumors each account for 1/3. 2. Among neck masses, non-thyroidal masses: thyroid masses = 80%: 20%. 3. Among non-thyroidal masses, tumorigenic masses: non-tumorigenic masses = 80%: 20%. 4. Among the neoplastic masses, metastatic tumors: non-metastatic masses = 80%: 20%. 5. Among metastatic tumors, metastatic tumor in the supraclavicular region: metastatic tumor in the subclavicular region = 80%:20%. Secondly, there is a certain distribution pattern of common neck masses in various areas of the neck: 1. submaxillary chin area, single masses are mostly submaxillary inflammation, tumor and subchin dermatomal cyst; multiple masses are mostly acute and chronic lymphadenitis. 2, anterior mid-neck region: single masses are common, mostly thyroglossal cysts and thyroid diseases. 3.Lateral cervical region: single masses are mostly thyropharyngeal duct cysts, cystic lymphadenoma, carotid body tumors, and hemangioma; multiple masses are mostly acute and chronic lymphadenitis, lymphatic tuberculosis, metastatic tumors, and malignant lymphoma. 4.Supraclavicular fossa: multiple masses are more common, mostly metastatic tumors and lymphatic tuberculosis. 5.Posterior cervical region: single masses are mostly fibroids and lipomas; multiple masses are usually acute and chronic lymphadenitis. 6, parotid area: single masses are common, mostly for parotitis, benign and malignant tumors. As can be seen from this, except for a small number of metastatic tumors in the subclavian area associated with thoracic surgery, etc., most neck masses are closely related to otolaryngology-head and neck surgery diseases, such as nasopharyngeal cancer, laryngeal cancer, laryngopharyngeal cancer, sinus cancer, middle ear cancer and other neck metastases, which require specialized examination of ear, nose, throat, larynx, head and neck surgery and further diagnosis and treatment.
