Dyspnea in advanced stage of lung cancer can have many causes, and depending on different causes, the treatment is different. If it is caused by tracheospasm, you can apply antispasmodic and asthma calming drugs, such as aminophylline, wheezing, etc. If the dyspnea is caused by obstructive pneumonia, lung infection, and sputum, firstly, sensitive antibiotics should be applied to control the infection, and at the same time, drugs to dilate the airways and expectorant should be applied. If the dyspnea is caused by a large amount of pleural effusion compressing the lung tissue, drainage of the effusion can be considered to relieve the compression and improve the respiratory function. Some patients may have multiple organ failure, especially heart failure, and can apply cardiac and diuretic drugs to improve heart function. If these methods are not effective in improving the patient’s dyspnea, tracheal intubation or tracheotomy can be considered for mechanical ventilation support if necessary.
