Laser treatment of hemangioma

Congenital vascular diseases are divided into two categories: hemangiomas and vascular malformations. Although the clinical manifestations are sometimes very similar, their course and treatment are very different. Angiomas tend to appear within the first few weeks of life and usually tend to fade on their own with time; vascular malformations are usually present at birth, some even without any manifestations, do not disappear on their own and grow gradually throughout life with age. At present, laser has become an indispensable method for the treatment of vascular diseases, and different types of lasers have been used to treat the disease for 50 years, and photodynamic therapy has been used to treat capillary malformations for twenty years. The author now presents a review of the progress of laser and photodynamic therapy in the treatment of vascular diseases (including common types of lasers and treatment characteristics, principles and advantages of photodynamic therapy, laser treatment of hemangiomas and different types of vascular malformations, etc.).
